Adai holds meetings to consolidate committees, according to TAC-Gov
CONTEXTUALIZATION
On August 28, 2023, the Justice Institutions working on the Rio Doce case requested, by means of a letter, that all the technical advisors working in all the affected territories, in the Rio Doce Basin, at the mouth and on the coast, in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo, appoint affected people to set up instances of the governance structure presented in the Governance Conduct Adjustment Term, known as TAC-Gov, in order to guarantee the participation of these people in the Affected Budget.
In order to meet the demands of the justice institutions and ensure that the people affected are well-informed, the Adai, together with the other advisory bodies (Aedas, CAT, Caritas Governador Valadares and Caritas Itabira) working in the Rio Doce Basin and the Capixaba coast, developed an integrated work plan along the lines of training, information and holding assemblies to consolidate the TAC-Gov commissions and participatory spaces.
A Adai has already started the process and will continue to hold these training and information sessions for the technical staff and the people affected in all six territories in which it operates: Baixo Guando, Colatina, Linhares, Povoação, Regência and Macro Litoral Norte, which includes São Mateus and Conceição da Barra.
Almost EIGHT YEARS after Brazil’s biggest socio-technological disaster, caused by the collapse of the Fundão dam in Mariana in 2015, the result of a production model that prioritizes profit over life, the struggle for justice for people affected by the right to participate in governance spaces continues!
Communities face water and soil pollution, the death of animals and vegetation, water shortages, economic losses, various diseases and other immeasurable damage.
Adai’s Technical Office for the Affected understands that this is a historic moment, where for the first time people can participate in the spaces that are rightfully theirs, making their voices heard and, after so many years, occupying their place as decision-makers. Therefore, it is understood that the governance put in place, as provided for in the TAC-Gov, must be one of the spaces for popular participation, and for this reason, it is important for the people to be present.
We understand that reparations, as well as the renegotiation and operation of governance, is an achievement that will only be possible with the participation of those affected.
